Only 90 meters of the Siddhartha tunnel in Palpa under the Siddharth highway is left to be dug. Krishnaraj Adhikari, Head of Siddhababa Tunnel Marg Planning Office, Butwal, said that since the construction work is going on in full swing, it is ready to break through in December.

So far, construction progress is 37 percent. Prabhat Kumar Jha, director of the Quality Research and Development Center under the Road Department, said that if there is no problem, it will not be a problem to break through in December.

It is constructed to be able to pass through a tunnel near Siddhababa Mandir and exit towards Palpa near Tinau hydropower. Three 'cross passages' will be constructed as emergency doors in the middle of the tunnel. If there is some problem inside the tunnel, it will be possible to get out through the cross passage. The length of the main tunnel is 1,126 meters.

The total distance of the three cross passages is 441 meters. Director Jha said that all the cross passages have been 'break through'. The distance including the tunnel and cross passage is 1,567 meters. Under this plan, road improvement work will be done on two lanes of 910 meters from Chidiakhola towards Butwal and 560 meters towards Palpa.

After frequent landslides and accidents on this road section, tunnel construction was started as an alternative. Four km of this section falls within the landslide prone area. The contract for the tunnel was signed in February 2078 so that it can be built within five years.  The contract was taken by China State Construction Engineering Company for 7 billion 34 million 21 million rupees. Its duration is upto 083 February . "Now, the work is being done around the clock," said director Jha, "so there is still time to work, if there is no problem, the work will be completed within the specified time."
