Communication and Information Technology Minister Prithvi Subba Gurung has said that infrastructure development is necessary to make Nepal a center of information technology in South Asia and for this the government is working on concepts like IT towers.
At the ICT Award program on Friday, he presented the concept of IT tower construction and said that it will provide a common platform for job creation, business promotion and exhibition and discussion.
"The tower built in Damak was a commercial tower, it was ignored as a view tower," he said, "we are trying to build an IT tower, not a view tower". We have tried to create a place where thousands of people can work, do business, exhibit and discuss. Is Malaysia's Twin Towers a view tower? is a trading post.'
Minister Gurung gave examples of Petronas Twin Tower in Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia, and Infosys Focus Tower in Bangalore, India, and mentioned that a similar structure can be built in Nepal. "In cities like Kathmandu, Pokhara, Biratnagar or Lalitpur, such a tower can provide 15,000 to 35,000 jobs," he said.
Minister Gurung said that the establishment of an IT tower is important to make Nepal an IT hub in South Asia. He said that due to the socio-cultural environment based on democracy, openness and competition, Nepal has the potential to become an IT hub. However, he pointed out that the efforts of the government alone would not be possible for this, and he pointed out that the cooperation and investment of the private sector is necessary.
Although the next ten years have been declared as the IT decade through the budget of the current financial year, Minister Gurung has expressed sadness that there is not enough budget allocation for this. He informed that Digital Nepal Framework 2.0 has started and it will be expanded and made effective.
Similarly, Minister Gurung said that there is a plan to implement the AI (Artificial Intelligence) policy within a month and it will help in increasing employment, reducing poverty and increasing productivity.
