Under the leadership of the Nepal Electricity Authority, the construction of the access road of the 1,63 MW Upper Arun semi-reservoir hydroelectric project to be built in Bhotkhola Rural Municipality of Sankhuwasabha has started.

Construction of the 21 km access road from the power house to the dam site of the project, which is geographically difficult and complicated, is being done in full swing. Out of 21 kilometers, two kilometers of tunnel construction have to be constructed.

Bhotkhola Rural Municipality-4 The access road leading from the proposed power house at Chongrang near Golabazar to the dam construction site near Chepuwa village of Ward No. 2 of the same rural municipality in the upper coastal area is under construction. Koshi Highway has reached Chongrang. Leaving Koshi Highway  To reach the project site, the project is constructing a 70 meter long steel arch bridge over the Arun River.

Since there is no road to reach both places, the equipment that was brought to Golabazar through Koshi highway was opened and transported by Mi-17 and other small helicopters. So far, more than 300 trips have been transported.

A bunker for the storage of explosives needed for tunneling and offices and housing for the troops assigned to maintain it is under construction. After the completion of all these works, the tunnel can be dug from both sides of Namase and Rukuma.

Road track opening from Chongrang to Namase has been started . The project's office and staff housing construction has reached the final stage. The construction of the access road was affected for a year and a half due to the time taken in the approval process of land use and cutting of trees in the national forest area.

The executive director of the authority and the promoter of the project Upper Arun Hydro-Electric Limited Chairman of the Board of Directors Kulman Ghising, the company's managing director Fadindraraj Joshi and other teams monitored the construction site on Saturday and Sunday and were involved in the construction  Discussions have been held with project management, consultants, construction professionals and locals.

Mentioning that all parties are traveling in the same boat, the team has asked to speed up the work by coordinating and cooperating with each other in the construction of the access road, which is considered important for the construction of the main structure of the project.

Executive Director Ghising was excited by the progress made so far in the construction of the access road and  He said that this sent a message that the Upper Arun project is moving forward. If the track of the access road can be opened at the beginning, then it will be easy to transport construction materials, so he directed the project management, consultants and construction professionals to coordinate with each other and proceed accordingly. Joshi, managing director of

company, said that since the private land has been acquired and permission has been obtained for land use and tree felling in the forest area, there is no problem in advancing the construction of the access road at a fast pace.

A contract agreement was signed between the Indian company Gayatri Project Limited and the joint venture (JV) of Nepal's Kankai International Builders for the construction of the access road on February 11, 2079 for 7 billion 91 crore rupees (including provisional sum and taxes).
