Santosh Koirala is going to be elected as the new president of Nepal Bankers Association, the umbrella organization of commercial banks. Koirala, the chief executive officer of Machhapuchhre Bank, is currently the vice-president of the Bankers' Association.
The 38th annual general meeting of the association will be held on this 3rd of January. The general meeting will elect three members including the president and vice president. For that, the nomination registration time was till Monday (today). Accordingly, Koirala and Prabhu Bank's Chief Executive Officer Ashok Sherchan nominated themselves as the chairman.
However, Sherchan was forced to withdraw his candidacy after the meeting of former presidents of the association held on Monday decided to unanimously elect the office bearers. Koirala will be unanimously elected as the president after Sherchan's claim is returned. For the last 13 years, the vice-president has automatically become the president. However, this time two candidates were nominated.
Similarly, Surendraraj Remmi, Chief Executive Officer of Global IME Bank, will be elected as the vice president of the association. Tilakraj Pandey, Chief Executive Officer of Nepal Bank, Ramchandra Khanal, Chief Executive Officer of Kumari Bank and Sudesh Khaleng, Chief Executive Officer of Everest Bank will be elected as three vacant working committee members. Khaling was also a member of the working committee. However, the new officers will be elected from the Annual General Meeting held on December 3.
