Diesel import from Birgunj has decreased. In the first four months of the current financial year, the import of diesel has decreased by 9.41 percent, according to the Birgunj Customs Office.
Revenue has also decreased by 15.16 percent with the decrease in diesel import . In the four months of the year 2081/82, two lakh 46 thousand seven hundred and nineteen kiloliters of diesel worth 21.84 billion eight lakh 76 thousand rupees were imported. During the same period last year, diesel worth 30 billion 1776 million 48 thousand rupees was imported.
Chief Customs Administrator Deepak Lamichhane said that the decrease in the import of petroleum products, vehicles and raw materials has affected revenue collection.
Diesel is being imported from Motihari-Amlekhganj petroleum pipeline, while petrol is being imported from tankers.
Ravi Singh, the president of the Federation of Nepalese Construction Professionals, said that the import of diesel has decreased as the construction sector has stopped till October of the current year. He said, 'It is necessary for the government to make the construction sector operational . Otherwise, the capital expenditure will not increase.'
Similarly, in the four months of the current year, 142,865 kiloliters of petrol worth 12,426,137,000 rupees has been imported. In the same period last year, 129 thousand 126 kiloliters of petrol worth 13 billion 1849 million 90 thousand rupees was imported.
