The 13.5 megawatt super Kabeli 'A' hydropower project built by Snow Rivers Limited has officially started generating electricity. The output of the project located in Sirijungha Rural Municipality-8 Yamfudin is connected to the national transmission line through the 132 KVA Amarpur substation of Nepal Electricity Authority located in Hilihang Rural Municipality of Panchthar.
Meghnath Dhungana, public relations officer of the project, which is connected to the national electricity transmission line, informed that after the production test of the project was conducted for a week and was successful. The power transmission system has been completed from the Yamfudin power station to the Amarpur substation, which is 31 kilometers away.
The construction of the project, which started from the last week of November 2079, was completed in a short period of time at a cost of two billion 632 million rupees. With the completion of the Super Kabeli 'A' project, the number of hydropower projects being produced in Taplejung has reached eight.
Among the largest projects in Plejung so far, the 73 MW Madhya Tamor hydropower project is the main one. It was built by Sanima Hydro Company. Similarly, the 25 MW capacity Kabeli 'B-1' and the 10 MW capacity Kabeli 'B-1' Casket project operated by Arun Valley Hydropower Development Company are also important projects in this region.
9.9 megawatts of electricity is being produced in the Iwakhola hydropower project and 9.7 megawatts in the upper Iwakhola project. These projects are being operated from the Indravati river that flows on the border of Taplejung and Panchthar. At Fawakhola in Pathibhara Yangwarak rural municipality, electricity is being produced from 5.8 megawatts projects operated by Unitech Hydropower Company and 5 megawatts operated by Siwani Hydropower Company.
Currently, more than one and a half dozen hydropower projects are under construction in Taplejung. After the completion of these projects, it is expected that the electricity production in the district will expand further.
