The Nepal Electricity Authority has cut power to 32 industries due to dedicated and trunk line arrears disputes. Out of 49 industries that have to pay arrears, 8 industries have started paying the duty in installments, while 7 industries have taken interim orders from the court. Power to two government industries has not been cut.

Chandan Ghosh, spokesperson of the authority, said, 'Electricity has been cut in 32 industries, 7 industries could not be cut off due to interim orders, Hetaunda and Udaipur Cement have not been cut off because they can settle accounts with the two government institutions.' 6 billion 60  crores of rupees are yet to be paid till 075 Baisakh. But since the deadline (60 days) for paying the electricity bill has been cut, the authority has been asking the industrialists to pay by adding 25 percent additional duty.

Energy Minister Deepak Khadka said he was not aware of this. "The authority has not even informed that the power has been cut in the industries, nor have the industrialists said that they have been affected, I only came to know about the power cut from the news," he said. He says that the authority created the problem by not collecting money for years. He also said that if the official information comes to the ministry, the discussion on how to proceed will be started. "No information has been received, there was a discussion yesterday, they also said that electricity should not be cut," he said.

After the report of the commission formed under the chairmanship of former judge Girish Chandra Lal for resolving the arrears dispute, the government instructed the authority to collect the arrears only from 072 January to 075 Baisakh.

The authority also cut lines in 6 industries since June 25, according to the instructions of the Council of Ministers. But after the instructions of the Electricity Regulatory Commission, the meeting of the board of directors of the authority on July 8 decided to provide a three-month facility and connect electricity to the cut off industries.

The authority issued a notice on October 24 and said that 49 industries should pay the electricity fee with additional fees by November 8 and if they do not pay the fee, they will be charged according to the law. As the time to pay the arrears ended on Thursday, the authority started cutting off the power of the industry.

The Lal Commission suggested that in the case of the second period i.e. from 072 January to 075 Baisakh, according to the prescribed standards, the day and period of electricity supply to the customer should be recalculated and recalculated. It has been claimed that the standard should be 24 hours continuous supply in the case of dedicated and 6 hours in the case of trunk line even in the case of loadshedding, at least 20 hours of continuous power supply.

The authority has sent the bill according to the rules. But the industrialists have said that the Commission's report has not been fully implemented. They allege that the authority sent a lump sum bill from 072 January to 075 Baisakh without sending the bill with the details of how much electricity was consumed on which day. "In the report, it is said to confirm the date and period and calculate again, but the authority did not do that," said the industrialist.
