Water from Melamchi to Sundarijal water treatment plant has been sent to Wagmati River after exceeding its capacity.
Now 250 million liters of water is coming from Melamchi river every day . Ratna Lamichhane, Executive Director of Melamchi Water Supply Development Committee, said that about 180 million liters of water has been processed and distributed in the valley.
'The capacity of the treatment center is 17 to 180 million litres,' he said, 'after more water came, it was sent to Wagmati.' He says that even that water is not brought to the treatment center. "Water is not a problem now," he said, "Melamchi's water has also increased the flow of the Wagmati River."
Melamchi water, which was closed three months ago, has been distributed in Kathmandu Valley since Tuesday. Water supply minister Pradeep Yadav started the distribution of water sent to the tunnel from the spring in Helambu rural municipality of Sindhupalchok at the water treatment plant at Sundarijal. Water was distributed from October 22 after three months of closure due to rains.
The demand for water in the valley is 470 million liters per day. Although there is enough water, more water has been poured into Wagmati due to the lack of physical infrastructure. Even though four years have passed since Melamchi water distribution started in Kathmandu, the government has not been able to make a plan to continuously send water to Kathmandu Valley.
