The decade of 1950 is considered as the decade of development of modern tourism in Nepal. At this time, the Rana rule ended and the first airport was established in Nepal. Wars had ended on the world stage as well.

Mountain climbing started in Nepal in this decade, that too starting from Gandaki province is now a memorable thing for us residents of the province.

There are three mountains above 8 thousand meters in this province. The first activity of tourism in Nepal is mountain climbing. On June 3, 1950, the French group of Maurice Herzog and Louis Lesnel successfully climbed the first Annapurna Himal in this province . Only three years later, on May 29, 1953, Tenzing Norge and Edmund Hillary climbed Mount Everest. In this way, Gandaki province should be considered as the mother of modern tourism development. As many mountains as there are above 8 thousand meters in Nepal, all those mountains can be climbed from one side only, except for our province. All the three mountains in our country can be climbed from both sides.

Talking about the tourism policy, the first tourism policy was made in 2052 in Nepal . It was amended in 2065  . After the new constitution came in 2072, the form of government changed. Now in 2081, the Union Government is moving forward to bring a new tourism policy. In terms of the province, after 2074, we have passed the Tourism Act 2079 and regulations last year. Now we are in the process of making a tourism policy. Its main focus is Nature, Adventure, Agriculture, Culture, History, Heritage and Religion. This is the activity and we want to make a tourism policy to develop the destination.

The provincial government has considered partnership with the private sector to be important for promoting tourism. Our first priority is agriculture and second priority is tourism. By combining these two, we have embraced the policy of 'Agro-Tourism'. For example, we have linked trout fishing in Bhujung river and local chicken, fruit garden, Raithane crop-drainage promotion in other places with tourism . Gandaki has been declared the tourism capital. Not only the Ministry of Tourism, but every ministry is involved in tourism promotion. We have been promoting cultural and trade fairs. We are also supporting financially for the preservation and marketing of the costumes, heritage and goods of all ethnic groups here. We have promoted adventure games. We have invested in training and infrastructural development from the construction of Kosheli houses to the Gharbas program. We are connecting the private sector in various ways. In terms of

airport operations, the government itself is operating through competition from the private sector without operating aircraft everywhere. In the case of opening an airline company and buying a ship, the provincial government has no position. We are constantly trying to figure out how to connect the airport regionally. Regionally, we are in the process of understanding that if there is an environment where the provincial government can provide visa procedures, labor acceptance, and health check-ups with countries that are close to us, then we can expand the po market. We are trying to connect Hinduism and Buddhism with tourism. For this, we are constantly trying to see if we can bring in Buddhist tourists from Banaras Hindu Dharmavalli to Lhasa and China.

Accessible infrastructure should be created for accessible tourism to include persons with different abilities and make them comfortable. Many of the infrastructures of our province are already built, so they are not accessible. Public and private infrastructure such as highways, hotels, religious centers should be legally guaranteed to make them disabled and senior citizens friendly, we are aware of this matter.
