Makwanpur police have arrested three Indian nationals and a Nepali hotel operator on charges of involvement in online fraud.
A joint team from the District Police Office Makwanpur and the Ward Police Office Hetauda arrested 27-year-old Indrajit Sarkar, 20-year-old Saharshjit Sarkar, and 23-year-old Amanraj, all residents of Patna, Bihar, India, as well as 37-year-old Deepak Bastola, the operator of Bastola Hotel located in Hetauda–10. Based on information that they had been luring various individuals, including Indian nationals, and defrauding them online, they were taken into custody from the hotel on the 7th of Saun.
According to police, during the investigation, evidence was found that they had formed groups on apps such as Telegram and WhatsApp using mobile phones and conducted financial transactions for fraudulent purposes. Police stated that further investigation is underway after obtaining a remand from the Makwanpur District Court on charges related to online fraud. Police have also requested that victims defrauded through various user IDs used by the arrested individuals contact the Crime Control and Investigation Branch of the District Police Office Makwanpur with evidence.
