Among the accused who were convicted by the court in various cases but had absconded, the District Police Office Makwanpur succeeded in arresting 228 individuals in the last fiscal year 082/083. From those arrested, a total of 112 years, 19 months, and 8 days of imprisonment and fines amounting to 29,492,272 rupees were collected.
The District Police Office Makwanpur arrested Bhim Bahadur Thing, a 66-year-old fugitive accused in a homicide case from Bhimphedi Rural Municipality–8, Salle. In the homicide case, the Makwanpur District Court had sentenced Thing to 10 years in prison in Ashadh 2060 BS. Thing had been absconding for 23 years.
After being convicted and sentenced to prison by the court, Thing had gone to India for employment for a few years. After returning from India, he had been living in Kathmandu. Police arrested Thing from his home on Thursday when he returned, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police and spokesperson Madhav Prasad Kafle of the District Police Office Makwanpur.
After the Makwanpur District Court's verdict was implemented and imprisonment and fines were imposed, Thing, who had been absconding, was arrested during a search operation by a police team deployed from the District Police Office and its subordinate offices.
With the aim of enforcing court verdicts, Makwanpur Police have started actively arresting fugitive defendants who have been convicted and sentenced to imprisonment and fines by the court.
