As the river continues to erode the banks, locals have been moving their belongings to safer locations, according to local resident Ramesh Shrestha. According to him, the flood in the river poses a risk of eroding the entire settlement.
Similarly, Gurumphi Bazaar in Gaurishankar Rural Municipality–6 and Sumna settlement in Ward 5 have also been put at risk due to the erosion by the Khare River. After the flood, locals from the at-risk settlements left their homes and spent the night in safer places. Shrestha said that locals who returned home on Thursday morning have started removing their belongings from their houses.
Likewise, after the flood completely damaged the road leading to the area, the road has become obstructed. As the flood swept away electricity poles, power supply has also been disrupted.
Pushpalal Highway Obstructed
After the flood in the Tamakoshi River swept away the Kirnetar section of the Pushpalal Highway in Dolakha, transportation has been disrupted.
On Wednesday night, the flood in the Tamakoshi River eroded the Kirnetar section of the Pushpalal Highway, which also serves as an alternative route to the BP Highway, completely blocking the road that connects the Tarai to Dolakha.
With the highway closed, vehicles from Dolakha to the Tarai and Koshi Province have not been able to operate. Police stated that the road has been obstructed because the flood swept it away. Police also said that efforts are underway to open an alternative road and resume transportation.
