Until the end of Asar, around 300 service seekers per day came to the District Administration Office Chitwan to make or collect national identity cards. At that time, it was also convenient for the staff to provide services.
With the start of the new fiscal year, there was a sudden rush to make identity cards at the Chitwan administration. As the excessive crowd began to disrupt the office, the Chitwan administration issued a notice on Wednesday, announcing that from today (Thursday) the service hours would be extended.
From 8 a.m., staff have started providing national identity card services at the office. Chief District Officer (CDO) Ganesh Aryal said that after service seekers began to face difficulties due to the crowd, the service was started with managed timing. “Until the end of Asar, it was easy to provide services, but after Saun began, the crowd of service seekers made service delivery difficult,” said CDO Aryal. “As service seekers started to face trouble, we have been providing services from morning till evening.”
From Thursday, the time for national identity card services has been managed from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the evening. After an unusually large crowd of service seekers, the Chitwan administration has doubled the service hours. Previously, about 300 people per day were provided with national identity card services, but from Thursday, tokens have been distributed to serve 750 people daily, according to CDO Aryal.
To manage the crowd, the administration has halted the distribution of cards to service seekers who have already received their identity card numbers and deployed those staff to the task of taking photographs for the identity cards. The administration has also posted notices on social media and the office notice boards about the temporary suspension of card distribution.
The administration has stated that preparations are being made to provide services even on public holidays. “If the crowd remains the same even after working from morning till evening, we are preparing to provide services on holidays as well,” said CDO Aryal.
The crowd of service seekers has increased after banks made the national identity card mandatory for opening new bank accounts, renewing accounts, and other purposes from the current fiscal year. The Chitwan administration has also requested banks in the district to proceed with all work based on the national identity card number for customers who have already received it. As crowds have formed both for making and collecting identity cards, the Chitwan administration has also requested banks to cooperate for facilitation.
