All six ministers from the UML participating in the Bagmati Province government have collectively resigned. The UML ministers, who went to submit their resignation letters to Bagmati Province Chief Minister Indra Bahadur Baniya, registered their resignations at the Secretariat after the Chief Minister was not present at his office.
Since Chief Minister Baniya, who had gone to Chitwan, would not be able to return on Wednesday and instructed that the resignation letters be registered at the Secretariat, the ministers acted accordingly.
After the Nepali Congress decided to end its power-sharing partnership with the UML on 31 Asar, the UML decided to withdraw from the provincial government to pave the way for a new power equation. According to UML parliamentary party leader Jagannath Thapaliya, the ministers had planned to submit their resignations to Chief Minister Indra Bahadur Baniya at 11 o'clock. Since the Chief Minister had not returned from Chitwan, the resignation letters were registered at the Chief Minister's Secretariat at 4:30.
The ministers who resigned are Minister for Industry, Commerce, Land and Administration Bindu Shrestha; Minister for Physical Infrastructure Development Dr. Dinesh Chandra Devkota; Minister for Health Kiran Thapa; Minister for Forests and Environment Bharat Bahadur KC; Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Development Madhusudan Paudel; and Minister for Labor, Employment and Transport Jayaram Thapa. In addition, the UML has withdrawn its support from the Bagmati Province government. The party submitted a letter of withdrawal of support to Province Chief Deepak Prasad Devkota on Wednesday itself.
There were six ministers from the UML in the Bagmati Province government. Of them, five ministers were present at the Province Chief's office to submit the letter of withdrawal of support. However, Health Minister Kiran Thapa could not be present as he was in Kathmandu.
After the resignation of the six UML ministers, the government led by Nepali Congress parliamentary party leader Indra Bahadur Baniya has fallen into a minority.
