The indigenously funded Upper Tamakoshi Hydropower Station has carried out emergency flushing (discharging) of the dam water after severe flooding in Tamakoshi.
The dam has been opened and closed since Saturday night after severe flooding from China. The center has urged locals along the riverbanks to be careful as the flow of the Tamakoshi is fluctuating.
The center's acting executive officer, Purnagopal Ranjit, said that the production of the 456-megawatt Upper Tamakoshi has been stopped due to continuous flooding in the area upstream of the dam. He said that the dam opening and closing work will be done by 7 pm on Sunday. The center had stopped electricity production since 2 am on Saturday due to emergency flushing.
The center has issued a public notice to locals along the Tamakoshi coast to take precautions. The center has also urged people not to go fishing, bathing, or going to the riverbanks as the speed of the Tamakoshi River fluctuates. The flood situation has not stopped due to continuous rain in the upper reaches of the Tamakoshi River.
