It is difficult to farm in Ichchakamanama Rural Municipality, which is dominated by the Chepang community. Due to the inability to bring technology to the hilly terrain of this municipality, traditional farming is being done.

Seeing this problem, Chandrashekhar Sapkota, a resident of Lalitpur Metropolitan City-15, who has been engaged in study and research in the agricultural sector for a long time, decided to distribute modern agricultural equipment to the Chepang community and other poor families living here.

Sapkota, who distributed 7 hand tractors two months ago, handed over 5 more hand tractors to the Chepang family on Sunday. Sapkota has already distributed 12 hand tractors with personal investment. ‘It is possible to revolutionize agriculture in Nepal through the use of technology. Since the use of small technology can produce good production and income even in the hills, I have provided hand tractors to the Chepang and poor families,’ said Sapkota.

There are 7 wards in Ichchakamana Rural Municipality. He said that initially 7 hand tractors were distributed because he wanted at least one hand tractor to reach every ward. He said that after the demand increased, he distributed another 5 hand tractors. ‘I have given one tractor to all the wards so that everyone in the village can work together, and if necessary, I will also help others,’ Sapkota said.

He said that the hand tractor was provided to the local poor families in the hilly areas to increase agricultural production. The Chepangs had come down from the hills to Kurintar Bazaar to get the tractor. After receiving the tractor, local Niraj Chepang said, ‘We were doing farming in the old way, now we will be able to produce more with the tractor.’

Like Niraj, Prem Chepang was also happy. He is also planting crops such as corn and millet. He thanked the donor for his support, saying that after receiving the hand tractor, it will be easier to increase production and work. Since it is a small hand tractor, it is easier to work in the hilly terrain. The price of a hand tractor is about 50 thousand rupees. In Ichhakamana Rural Municipality, which has a population of 27 thousand, about 8 thousand more people from the Chepang community live.
