A scooter driver died in a road accident that occurred in Panchkhal Municipality-4 under the Araniko Highway in Kavrepalanchok district on Wednesday morning.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Rabin Bista, Information Officer of the District Police Office Kavre, while crossing the highway from the inner road of Panchkhal, the scooter (number Pr.3-02-013 Pa 9501) was hit by an electric (EV) vehicle (number Ba 08-001 Ja 0150) heading towards Bahrabise from Kathmandu at around 9:30 am.

The scooter driver, Minkumari Shrestha, 24, a resident of Jalbire Rural Municipality-1 in Sindhupalchok and currently working at a microfinance institution in Panchkhal, who was seriously injured in the accident, was taken to Dhulikhel Hospital for treatment. Police said that doctors declared her dead at 10:48 am during treatment at the hospital.

Gopal Bhujel, 65, of Balefi Rural Municipality-7 in Sindhupalchowk, who was riding the EV, was injured in the accident. Police said he suffered a neck injury. After initial treatment at a local medical facility, he was sent to Dhulikhel Hospital for further treatment.

Both vehicles have been taken into custody by the police. The EV driver, Karna Bahadur Karki, 43, of Lisankhupakhar Rural Municipality-7 in Sindhupalchowk, has been taken into custody by the police and further investigation is underway into the incident.
