 Indrasarobar Rural Municipality, a small municipality in Makawanpur in terms of population and geography, on Tuesday passed a policy and program emphasizing the conservation of the Kulekhani reservoir, Indrasarobar, development of tourism infrastructure, and modernization, commercialization, and marketing of agriculture. 

Indrasarobar Rural Municipality Chairman Devkrishna Pudasaini presented the policy and program at the 17th village assembly, stating that the man-made lake Kulekhani is the backbone of the municipality's economic development, and the municipality will invest in its protection and promotion. Similarly, it has been stated that the municipality will protect and promote historical and archaeological areas of the municipality for religious and cultural tourism.  The policy and program of the municipality states that the municipality will encourage the residents to cultivate vegetables that are suitable for the climate and fish farming. 

It has been emphasized that the upgrading of the road is essential as short-distance roads connecting Kathmandu pass through this municipality, and the emphasis has been placed on upgrading the road in coordination with the concerned bodies.

The program includes emphasis on improving the physical infrastructure of community schools, digital learning and technical education. Similarly, the policy and program mentions tree plantation and bio-engineering to control the tendency of accumulation of garbage in the Kulekhani reservoir area.

Indrasarobar Rural Municipality, connected to the federal capital, has made public a budget of Rs 420 million for the upcoming fiscal year 2083/84. The 17th Village Assembly of Indrasarobar Rural Municipality, held on Tuesday, presented an estimated budget of Rs 420 million for the upcoming fiscal year.

The budget was presented by the Vice-Chairman of the Rural Municipality, Uma Lama. The Village Assembly has unanimously passed the policy and program, financial bill and appropriation bill for the upcoming fiscal year. With the goal of building a ‘happy and prosperous Indrasarovar’, Indrasarovar has prioritized tourism, agriculture, infrastructure and good governance in the budget for the coming fiscal year.

The municipality has made tourism the main basis for economic development by focusing on Nepal’s largest man-made lake (Kulekhani Reservoir), said the municipality chairperson Pudasaini. He said that special packages have been announced in the budget to promote homestays, build tourist trails and attract tourists from Kathmandu and Hetauda.

The municipality has announced to streamline administrative services by embracing information, communication and technology. The municipality plans to provide broadband internet to all ward offices, health posts and community schools and implement a system where taxes can be paid online.

The municipality has adopted a policy of installing CCTV cameras in tourist and administrative areas for security, and increasing investment in digital learning and technical education in community schools. The municipality has already passed the policy and program and the budget for the coming fiscal year.
