The construction of the Naubise-Malekhu (second package) under the Nagdhunga-Mugling road project, which was halted for some time due to the war in West Asia and local problems, has resumed. The work is now progressing in full swing after importing bitumen.
Currently, the main priority is to finalize the base and blacktop (pitch) the 3-kilometer road of the Naubise-Dharke section. Work is also underway in the Ghatbesi section. Keshav Ojha, Project Chief of the Eastern Section of the project, said that considering the approaching monsoon, the work of pitching the market area and the extremely steep and difficult areas in the first phase has been accelerated. So far, 9 kilometers of the road has been dug for pitch and 10 kilometers of the old pitch has not been dug.
Out of 13 bridges, 10 bridges have been completed and vehicles have been put into operation. The slab slope work of two of the remaining three bridges is underway, while the project head Ojha said that the decision of one bridge that was stalled due to a court case has been in favor of the project, so work on that bridge is also being prepared to begin immediately.
Meanwhile, the work on the Salyangkhola and Khaharakhola bridges, road safety, and wall construction are also progressing in parallel. Work is also underway in the Malekhu to Mugling section. The project is also removing stones and soil from such places to reduce the risk of accidents caused by stones falling from the road during the rainy season.
Once this road section is fully operational, it is expected that the travel of vehicles entering and leaving Kathmandu will be much safer and easier.
