The National Independent Party (NISP) has started its provincial convention from Bagmati Province. The convention, organized on Tuesday at the Himalayan Durbar in Hetauda Sub-metropolitan City-1, was inaugurated by General Secretary Kabindra Burlakoti.
Earlier, President Ravi Lamichhane was supposed to inaugurate the convention. General Secretary Burlakoti inaugurated it after Lamichhane did not come. The convention, which will be held for two days, will elect a new leadership of the provincial organization.
The NISP has stated that about 1,500 representatives selected from 13 districts of Bagmati Province are participating in the convention. According to NISP Bagmati Province President and member of the House of Representatives, Dr. Achyutham Lamichhane, the convention has been completed in about 900 out of 1,121 wards of the province, and the party organization has expanded to all 119 local levels.
According to the statute of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), a 65-member provincial committee will be formed in Bagmati. The committee will have a president, vice-president and general secretary, while there will be two joint general secretaries. There is a provision that one woman and one man must be among the joint general secretaries. Similarly, office bearers including a treasurer and spokesperson will be selected.
If there is an election, voting will be held in two phases. In the first phase, the president and provincial members will be elected, while in the second phase, office bearers will be selected from among the elected members.
The RSSS has already held district conventions in 12 out of 13 districts of Bagmati Province. The convention in Sindhupalchowk has been postponed. The representatives selected from the district conventions will vote in the selection of provincial leadership.
