The Media Conference and Fifth General Assembly of the Federation of Nepali Journalists, Bagmati Province, held in Hetauda on Sunday, has issued a 12-point Hetauda Declaration. The declaration demands the creation of an environment where journalists have unhindered access to information, criminal charges against journalists under the Electronic Transactions Act on the basis of writing news, and an end to activities such as indirect threats, arrests, and surveillance against journalists. The Media Conference has urged the federal government to withdraw the discriminatory decisions and circulars regarding advertising policy against private media outlets, which are contrary to the fundamental rights granted by the Constitution and the essence of federalism, the open economy policy, and adopt a policy to promote independent media. The Media Conference and Fifth General Assembly, which was held in Hetauda for 3 days, has urged the media workers to create an environment of professional security by joining the contribution-based social security fund. Chief Minister Indra Baniya had said at the inaugural ceremony of the conference that working journalists of Bagmati Province would be affiliated with the contribution-based social security fund.

Journalists from 10 districts of Bagmati Province, apart from the sub-district, participated in the conference. Krishna Saru Magar, President of the Bagmati Province Committee of the Nepali Journalists Federation, said that the conference demanded that the federal government immediately stop interfering in the provincial and local governments and issuing circulars against the constitution and law in the context of the Hetauda Declaration, which clearly states the jurisdiction of the federal, provincial and local governments in the constitution.

The conference also demanded that the closed Hetauda textile industry and the ailing Hetauda cement factory, including other industries and factories within Bagmati Province, be operated and employment opportunities created.

Expressing support and solidarity with the work being done by the government to promote good governance, it has been demanded to promote good governance through democratic methods and paths, not through authoritarian methods.

It has been demanded that the district branches within Bagmati Province, which have acquired the occupancy rights and necessary structures have been constructed in the name of the Federation of Nepali Journalists, should maintain the occupancy rights of the district branch buildings. 110 media persons participated in the media conference.
