The Bagmati Province Government has built and handed over more than 700 houses to the marginalized Chepang, Majhi and Bote communities of Makawanpur and Chitwan in the past 7 years. Under the Janata Awas Program, 707 buildings have been handed over to the Chepang, Majhi and Bote communities of Makawanpur and Chitwan since FY 2017/076. The implementation phase of the agreement for the construction of houses with 909 families has progressed, said Bhupendra Yadav, Chief Senior Division Engineer of the Urban Development and Building Office, Makawanpur. Out of which, 884 families have received the first and second installments, and 870 families are constructing the housing buildings. The third or final installment is paid after the construction of the building is completed. The provincial government takes forward the housing construction process based on the recommendation and selection of the local government. The provincial government, which has already spent Rs 384.3 million on housing construction, has been providing Rs 400,000 per household. The procedure of the Janata Awas Program has provided that beneficiaries should donate 10 percent of the labor cost to awaken their sense of belonging to the house.

The provincial government has been constructing housing for single women including marginalized Chepang, Banakaria, Majhi, Bote. According to Engineer Yadav, the housing development program has been launched to bring the marginalized community into the mainstream of the state as their awareness level towards education and health is still weak and they are trapped in child marriage, bad customs, and superstitions.

According to Engineer Yadav, in the fiscal year 2079/080, the provincial government has completed and handed over 279 houses in Makawanpur and 224 in Chitwan. The provincial government has spent Rs 201.2 million for this, and 94 houses are being constructed in the current fiscal year. The target is to complete the construction of 105 more houses.

The endangered forest community in Musedhap, Manahari Rural Municipality, has been deprived of the People's Housing Program for years. The land they do not own and where they are currently living in huts is within the Parsa National Park.

According to the Minister for Physical Infrastructure Development of the province, Dr. Dinesh Chandra Devkota, the People's Housing Program was transferred from the federal government to the provincial government after the fiscal year 2075/076.

Even after the transfer from the federal government to the province, 707 housing houses have been completed, and 'the traditional and unproductive development model should be changed and emphasis should be placed on integrated settlement development.' Minister Devkota said that the need of the hour is to increase investment in areas of strategic importance rather than spending the budget on scattered plans and small projects.

The Bagmati Provincial Government is going to construct pucca houses for 39 families of the Chepang community living in Madi, Chitwan. Chief Engineer Yadav of the Urban Development and Building Office, Makawanpur, said that the provincial government is preparing to complete the construction of 39 houses in the current fiscal year for the Chepang community scattered in Madi, Chitwan, as per the concept of an integrated settlement.
