Police have seized a large quantity of illegal cannabis in the border area of Tatopani border crossing connecting the district with China. The Kodari Area Police Office has said that 1,620 cannabis items worth Rs 5.67 million were seized along with 7 people on Friday night.
According to Jagat Bahadur Rai, Inspector of Kodari Area Police Office, the cannabis was seized during a special check at around 9:30 pm on Friday night in Ganjekhola area of Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality-3. A 7-member team deployed under the command of Inspector Rai found the cannabis while it was being brought from China via Bokchen in Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality-3 towards Daskil on the Araniko Highway.
The police said that the cannabis was hidden in nine sacks and brought inside a cotton bag. 'The cannabis was brought through the Chinese forest area through Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality-3 Bokchen using the inner road leading to the Dashkilo exit of the Kodari Highway,' said Police Inspector Rai. 'The confiscated cannabis is being prepared to be handed over to the customs office tomorrow.'
Police have arrested 35-year-old Ganesh Khadka of Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality-4, 46-year-old Himal Khadka, 24-year-old Bikash Bik, 48-year-old Ram Bahadur Bik, 17-year-old Bishal Rakpal, 37-year-old Mangal Bahadur Thami, and 42-year-old Kanchha Tamang of Bahrabise Municipality-5 on charges of involvement in the incident, the police said. Police said that further investigation is underway against the arrested persons.
