One of three children from the same family who fell ill after eating giant mushrooms brought from the forest has died. Two are in critical condition.
A child died on Friday in Kulbang village of Hattibang, Ichchakamana Rural Municipality-1. Two others are seriously ill. They are being treated at Bharatpur Hospital, said Ward Chairman of Ichchakamana-1, Santa Bahadur Magar. They had symptoms like vomiting and diarrhea after eating the mushrooms.
Lok Bahadur Magar, the principal of the local National Secondary School Hattibang, who brought them to Bharatpur Hospital for treatment, said that Namuna Chepang, a student of class 2 at So School, died. Manita Chepang, a student of class 5, and Sajan Chepang, a student of class 3, are being treated at the emergency room of Bharatpur Hospital. The condition of their parents appears to be normal. 'They say they cooked mushrooms and ate them on Tuesday evening. The condition of their parents, Shyam Bahadur and Padma Maya, seems normal,' said Prof. Magar.
A giant fungus called Amenita, found in some mushrooms found in the forest, can affect the liver and cause complications, said Dr. Pramod Paudel, a doctor at Bharatpur Hospital.
