The Kayar River is easy to cross because it has only water that is barely submerged in the foot. But during the rainy season, this river becomes large. Namuna Chepang, who is crossing the Kayar River from Tin Dobhan in Siddhi, Kalika Municipality-10, a hilly area of Chitwan, is going home. She is shocked to remember the hardships of the river during the rainy season. Her relatives have lost their lives in this river.

On the evening of July 10, 2081, 33-year-old Gambhir Bahadur Chepang was crossing the Kayar River from Tin Dobhan. The rising flood swept him away. His body was found about one and a half kilometers below the place where he had been swept away. Gambhir was the son of Namuna's aunt. 'If there had been a good bridge here, my brother would not have lost his life unnecessarily,' Namuna said.

After the number of people being swept away by the river increased, Kalika Municipality started building a bridge at Tin Dobhan. On Saturday, the bridge was sloping. As the slope was going up, Namuna, who was standing near the bridge, added, ‘That won’t happen again.’ She was carrying a child on her back with a sling. After looking at the bridge for a while, she hurriedly crossed the river and headed towards the village.

Naveen Praja was going to his home in Paimarang by crossing the Chepang Coir. His wife Swastika is pregnant. He walks for an hour and a half to Siddhi Tin Dobhan for his wife’s health check-up. He doesn’t feel scared when he remembers the incident of people being swept away and losing their lives while crossing the river during the rainy season. But Naveen is hopeful that the bridge will not happen again because of the construction. ‘I studied at Majhwang Secondary School in Tin Dobhan. When we came to study, we had a lot of trouble . We used to hang ropes and come to study,' said Navin . He feels that even if we cross the river by crossing the river, we will not have such a problem now .

Kalika Municipality Mayor Binod Regmi said that the municipality itself started building the bridge after not receiving budget from the federal and provincial governments . 'People will die while crossing here, but there is no budget to build the bridge . We also did not hope from the federal or provincial governments . After the budget was not received, we did not just hope . We increased our readiness to save people,' said Mayor Regmi .

Municipality engineer Kishor Khatiwada said that the DPR of the bridge was prepared from the federal budget . Then, in Asad last year, work began by signing an agreement with the construction company . There is an agreement to complete all the construction work by the coming Poush 30 . He said that even though large vehicles cannot ply due to the slope, people and two-wheelers/three-wheelers will be able to ply by the coming Ashar.

‘The work to build a wall on the river bank may not be done before the monsoon. We will complete all the bridge work ahead of schedule by working as soon as the monsoon is over. Now the slope has been made. The bridge can be operated during the monsoon,’ said Engineer Khatiwada. The length of the bridge is 40 meters.

Engineer Khatiwada said that the construction contract amount is Rs 43.867 crore. Upameran Bimala Lama of Kalika Municipality said that 10/12 thousand people living in villages in the northern part of Siddhi will benefit from this bridge.

Residents of the lower part of Ichchakamana below Hattibang also commute via this road. These villages are mostly inhabited by the indigenous Chepang community. Villages like Chowki, Bharang, and Thaprang in the southeastern part of Ichchakamana Rural Municipality also pass through this road. Therefore, this bridge benefits the residents of the two municipalities.

From Tin Dobhan, through Chowki and Thaprang, one reaches Hattibang, a tourist village of Ichchakamana. From there, the Hugdi Bazaar on the Prithvi Highway is nearby. 'If the bridge and road are good, the Prithvi Highway can be reached from here. Even now, small vehicles come from Hugdi on the Prithvi Highway to Tin Dobhan. If this road can be operated properly, it will be easier for the locals and will also benefit tourism,' said Mayor Regmi.
