Kailash Rural Municipality of Makawanpur has established birthing centers in most of the wards of the municipality with the aim of ensuring safe delivery for pregnant women.
Kailash Rural Municipality has brought one birthing center each in 8 out of 10 wards in the last 3 years. Now, only 2 wards of Kailash are yet to be operational.
A birthing center has been operational in Baikuntha, Kailash Rural Municipality-2 since Monday. Earlier, due to the lack of a birthing center here, pregnant women and those who gave birth were forced to reach Palung and Kailash-1 Barbhanjyang birthing centers in Thaha Municipality. It took about 2 hours to reach these two places.
After the birthing center comes into operation in Baikuntha, which is connected to Rorang Benighat Rural Municipality-4 of Dhading, pregnant women in the area will have the facility to deliver safely in the village. Village Municipality Chairman Lok Bahadur Moktan said that they plan to establish birthing centers in Pakni of Ward 6 and Bhaltar of Ward 10 to create a new village municipality with 'home delivery'.
In Kailash Rural Municipality, which is dominated by the Chepang community, it was estimated that 357 people would become pregnant in the last fiscal year. Of these, only 170 pregnant women came to the health institution and gave birth, said Health Branch Chief Tilak Gautam.
