Bhimphedi Rural Municipality of Makawanpur has affiliated women health volunteers and informal sector workers to the contribution-based social security fund.
The rural municipality has affiliated 106 people, including 47 women health volunteers and 69 informal sector workers, to the fund since Thursday. The rural municipality has previously affiliated 205 workers working in the informal sector, including carpenters, masons, agricultural workers and vehicle drivers.
Inaugurating the program to affiliate volunteers and informal sector workers to the fund in the current fiscal year, Bagmati Province Chief Minister Indra Bahadur Baniya said that the municipality has done an exemplary job by incorporating volunteers and informal sector workers, who have become pillars of the health sector, into the fund. Chief Minister Baniya said that all 119 municipalities of Bagmati Province should follow this work.
Bhimphedi Rural Municipality has been implementing the contribution-based social security scheme since 080/081. For the current fiscal year, a budget of Rs 3 million has been allocated under the contribution-based workers' fund. Chairman Lama said that after the informal sector workers were included in the fund, their confidence has increased.
In order to include informal sector workers in the fund, the government of Nepal has made an arrangement to add 11 percent of the minimum basic wage set for the industrial sector, i.e. Rs 1190, and the rural municipality has added 9.37 percent, i.e. Rs 1014, to the fund, making a total of 20.37 percent, i.e. Rs 2204, to the fund on a monthly basis.
After joining the social security scheme, workers will be able to participate in various schemes such as medical treatment, health and maternity security scheme, accident and disability security scheme, dependent family security scheme and old age security scheme, and receive the services mentioned in the scheme by participating in various schemes such as spouses of workers and children under the age of 18 of the families affiliated with the fund.
An agreement was signed between Bhimphedi Rural Municipality and the Social Security Fund on 30th Shrawan 2080 to operate the social security scheme for workers working in the informal sector. 311 people, including 107 in the agricultural sector, 71 in the construction sector, 63 in the transportation sector, 23 in the domestic and other sectors, and 47 in women volunteers, have joined the fund from this municipality.
