The body of one of the two teenage girls who went missing on Sunday while swimming in the Indrawati River near the bridge in Melamchi Municipality, Sindhupalchowk, has been found, while the other is still missing.
According to the District Police Office, Sindhupalchowk, the body of 18-year-old Anjali Giri of Ratmateki, Melamchi-9, among those who drowned, was found in the Bange Simalmuni area in Melamchi, downstream from the incident site.
Another 14-year-old Anjita Jyoti of Thangpal Rural Municipality-6, Panchpokhari, is still missing. According to District Superintendent of Police Kazi Kumar Acharya, a joint team of police and locals is continuing the search for Jyoti. Police have stated that the rescue and search operations are being difficult due to the increased water flow in the river.
The local administration has urged the general public to exercise special caution while swimming in rivers and streams as the rainy season approaches.
