They were talking about their joys and sorrows at home. They were discussing their daily routine and future work when they unexpectedly arrived. They had planned to go to the district administration in their free time. After receiving the passport while they were sitting at home, Shiva Prasad and his wife Jeet Kumari Gautam of Hetauda Sub-metropolitan City-16 became very happy.

‘We were being advised to go to the district administration to get the passport,’ said Shiva Prasad, ‘The postal staff brought it to our house.’ He said that he had never imagined that the day would come when they would receive the passport at home. ‘If the new government continues to provide facilities like this, the country will definitely be built,’ he said.

The District Post Office has started delivering passports to homes in the sub-metropolitan area from Wednesday. The post office has stated that citizenship certificates will also be delivered in the same way.

On the first day, the employees distributed passports to 26 people from 10 wards including Hetauda-2, 4, 5, 7, 10, 11, 12, 13, 16 and 17 at their homes. ‘The target was to deliver passports to 50 people at their doorsteps on Wednesday,’ said Post Office Chief Ramesh Lamichhane. ‘When we called and found out that no one was home, someone asked us to come tomorrow, so we were able to deliver only 26 passports.’ Not only the Gautam couple, but others have also been relieved of the hassle of having to go to the district administration to collect passports. The district administration delivered the passports directly to their homes through the postal service. On Wednesday, the employees of the district post office delivered the passports to the house of 22-year-old Nischal Manandhar, near the Kapur Complex building in Hetauda-4. Halkara, the head of the post office and the employees of the District Administration Office had arrived to hand over the passports. After receiving the passports in the courtyard, Khushi Manandhar said, ‘The government has started a good work, similar work should be done in other areas as well.’

The district administration had sent the post office to distribute 50 passports on Wednesday. The state has started this work with the aim of implementing point number 27 of providing door-to-door services to the general public. This initiative, which was launched with the aim of saving the time and labor of the service recipients, is expected to make the passport distribution process more convenient and effective. According to Chief District Officer Basanta Adhikari, the service will be provided only within the sub-metropolitan area in the initial phase. There is a plan to distribute about 500 passports that have not been collected from the office so far through the post office in the first phase.

The administration has set a goal of providing citizenship, national identity cards and driving licenses at home in the future. The post office has stated that although the service cannot be expanded to other municipalities in the district due to resource and security concerns, it can be operated smoothly in the sub-metropolitan area. Lamichhane, the post office chief, informed that arrangements will be made to deliver passports to nearby wards on the same day and to distant areas by the evening of the next day at the latest. The government had announced to provide 'door-to-door service' under the 100 governance reform program announced on Chaitra 13.

Lamichhane said that the capacity of the post office should be developed and expanded as the federal government is preparing to expand other services including citizenship, national identity card, driving license (license) along with passports and convert them into door-to-door service. Currently, 46 employees are working in the district post office. There are 9 municipal post offices, 2 postal counters and one district office in the district. The office has been distributing and transporting 100 letters daily, including government offices and foreign parcels.
