The budget session of the Bagmati Provincial Assembly is set to begin on Tuesday. The cabinet meeting of the Bagmati Provincial Government on Sunday decided to recommend to the provincial chief to convene the provincial assembly meeting for Tuesday, Chaitra 24 at 4 pm. The provincial assembly meeting is being held at the assembly hall of Hetauda Sub-metropolitan City in Hetauda-2.

The provincial assembly building in Hetauda-10 was set on fire during the Gen-G movement. The building where the upcoming provincial assembly meeting will be held was also set on fire, but has been repaired.

Government spokesperson and Minister for Economic Affairs and Planning Prabhat Tamang informed that the construction process of the provincial assembly building has not been moved forward as the government is preparing to construct the necessary buildings in one place after acquiring land for the provincial structure. According to him, the construction of the provincial structure including the provincial assembly building will be started from the budget of the current fiscal year.

Spokesperson Tamang informed that the speaker will be elected within two weeks of the start of this session of the provincial assembly. He claimed that an agreement has been reached between the ruling parties, Congress and UML, on the issue of the speaker. At a time when the ruling parties are claiming that the gap is widening over the leadership of the provincial government, Tamang claimed that the Speaker will be elected within 15 days of the date of the Provincial Assembly meeting as per the provisions of the constitution. 'An agreement has been reached on the Speaker', he claimed.

The post is vacant after Bhuwan Pathak, who was previously elected Speaker from the RPP, resigned from the post following the Gen-G movement. This is the first Provincial Assembly meeting to be held after Indra Bahadur Baniya became the Chief Minister after becoming the leader of the parliamentary party amid disputes within the Congress.
