A mobile vehicle belonging to the Chitwan Khairhani Area Police Office, which was returning from Birgunj to Kathmandu after skirting a vehicle carrying election materials, collided with an oil tanker at Tandi Bhanuchowk, Ratnanagar on Sunday midnight.
Four people, including the driver of the police vehicle, were injured in the incident. One of the injured is in serious condition. The condition of the remaining three is moderate, according to the Chitwan District Police Office.
The injured are being treated at the Chitwan Medical College Teaching Hospital in Bharatpur, said DSP Rabindra Khanal, spokesperson for the Chitwan District Police Office. Among the injured, Police Constable 37-year-old Chetnath Pokharel has a head injury. His condition is serious.
Assistant Inspector of Police Ramkishore Sudi, 48, and Police Constable Ishwari Dani, 24, are in moderate condition. The driver of the police vehicle, Police Constable Mahesh Ghimire, 29, is also in moderate condition, DSP Khanal said.
At 12:30 midnight, a tanker carrying oil hit a police mobile vehicle (Na 1 Jha 1405) at Bhanuchowk, Ratnanagar Municipality-10, DSP Khanal said. DSP Khanal said that the police have taken into custody the oil tanker (L 1 Ka 8285) and its driver, 27-year-old Rhythm Gharti, a resident of Salyan, which hit the vehicle at 2:50 am.
