As the election date approaches, candidates are busy campaigning. Candidates have been holding door-to-door campaigns, corner meetings, and neighborhood gatherings to attract voters.
Candidates, along with cadres, supporters, well-wishers and associates, are busy campaigning from morning till late. Their campaigning style is also unique.
Mahesh Nepali, who lost his left hand when he tried to detonate a bomb in Kuleshwor, Kathmandu, demanding a boycott of the 2070 BS Constituent Assembly elections, is now a candidate from the CPN-Maoist in the Makawanpur-1 constituency.
He has been urging voters to gather around him using a handheld microphone in the streets, alleys and squares of densely populated areas. He has been holding the microphone with his right hand and confidently delivering his message to the voters present.
After registering his candidacy on Magh 6, he bought a handheld microphone with the help of his friends. He has been distributing pamphlets with election symbols using the same handheld microphone in the streets and squares of his constituency.
He also sings progressive songs to convey his message to the voters. Voters also get excited to hear him sing in his melodious voice. Nepali, a central member of the party who is also the coordinator of the cultural organization of the CPN-Maoist, Samang Parivar, joined the armed conflict in 2061 BS.
Despite his desire to carry a gun, the party gave him the responsibility of the cultural field. Nepali, who has the ability to write songs himself, sing and even play instruments, was born in 2044 BS. Nepali, who studied up to the seventh grade, says that the party made him a candidate to protect and expand the public opinion of his party and to present a plan for the exit of the entire country.
The party has provided him with a motorcycle for the election. That motorcycle is also driven by an assistant to take him to the place/place. Nepalis cannot ride motorcycles due to their hands. Friends also fill the oil in the motorcycle. ‘While campaigning, we have been eating whatever is available from supporters and voters,’ he said, ‘Even if we do this, we will spend 5-7 lakh rupees. How can the poor and workers be elected in such an electoral system? That is why this electoral system must be changed.’
12 years ago, he was injured in his left hand while detonating a bomb demanding that we boycott the Constituent Assembly elections. ‘The bomb blew off the upper part of his left wrist,’ he said, ‘I had to stay in the hospital for 20 days for treatment.’
Voters are also asking him why he boycotted the Constituent Assembly elections and now participates in the elections under the same constitution. ‘Times have changed. That time, that was right. Times have changed after the Genji rebellion,’ he replies to voters.
Despite not having a left hand, he sings songs by playing harmonica, guitar and other instruments. He holds the microphone with his right hand and speaks for hours. He said that he is holding corner meetings in 10 to 15 places a day from 7 am until dark.
