Ramchandra Bhusal has been elected as the chairman of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA)'s JICA Alumni Association Forum of SAARC Countries (JAFS).
Bhusal was elected unopposed as the president on Saturday through an election held after a three-day international conference on 'Japan's Contribution to the Social and Economic Development of South Asia' held in Colombo, the capital of Sri Lanka.
'The three-day conference ended on Saturday, I feel that I have increased my responsibility to be elected unopposed, and I see that I need to learn honesty, accountability, discipline, punctuality and professional hard work from Japan,' said Bhusal.
Bhusal is currently the president of the Nepal JICA Alumni Association. Earlier, he was the general secretary of JAFES from 2017 to date. President Bhusal and Vice President Kiran Rupakheti, who represented Nepal, presented at this conference. A six-member team from Nepal participated under the leadership of Bhusal.
Japanese Ambassador to Sri Lanka Mr. Akiko Isomata said that JAFES has played an important role in maintaining harmonious relations between Japan and the countries of the SAARC region and in social and economic development.
He said that such international seminars would help in the exchange of knowledge and experience among alumni members from different countries. Kenji Kuronuma, Head of JICA Sri Lanka, said that international cooperation and goodwill are indispensable for global social and economic development and clarified that JICA will continue to support further strengthening the network, coordination and unity among JICA alumni.
S.M. Sathiyakama, President of the Sri Lanka JICA Alumni Association, who chaired the seminar, said that this is the first time that his organization has been able to organize such a large-scale international seminar and expressed his belief that it will further strengthen the relations between Japan-Sri Lanka and Japan-SAARC countries.
At the program, JANAKI General Secretary Shantilakshmi Shakya gave a presentation on the activities of the organization, while JICA Alumni General Secretaries from other SAARC countries presented the activities of their respective countries. Established in 2008, JACS Secretariat has been in Kathmandu since 2017.
