In Makawanpur, 21 candidates have sought recommendations to open bank accounts for the House of Representatives elections scheduled for February 21.

According to the Bagmati Province Election Office, as of Friday, only 21 of the 44 candidates in both constituencies have received recommendations to open new bank accounts for election purposes.

According to the election code of conduct, any candidate will have to make election expenses and donations only through the banking system. Donations and expenses exceeding Rs 25,000 must be made through the bank, and receipts must be submitted even if they are made in cash.

There are 21 candidates in Makawanpur-1 and 23 in 2. Candidates must open a separate account in any bank for election purposes. The election office has been giving recommendations for that. In the case of Makawanpur, there is a provision that candidates can spend up to Rs 3.3 million.

Candidates who do not open a separate account and do not make their expenses public may be asked for clarification on the violation of the code of conduct, fined up to Rs 100,000, or have their candidacy cancelled.
