The District Election Office, Hetauda, has written to the House of Representatives candidates from both constituencies to open separate bank accounts for election purposes.
After receiving instructions from the Election Commission as per the procedure, the Election Office, Hetauda, wrote to all the candidates for the House of Representatives in Makawanpur on Wednesday.
The Election Office has also urged candidates who have already opened accounts to convert them to new accounts after taking recommendations, said Hari Prasad Dhakal, Chief of the Provincial Election Office, Hetauda. He said that the instructions were issued after the procedures were made for opening accounts only after taking recommendations from the Election Commission offices.
As per the election code of conduct, Makawanpur candidates are allowed to spend up to Rs 3.3 million, so the Fund and Accounts Control Office, Hetauda, has been assigned to monitor whether more than this has been spent.
Chief Fund Controller Dinesh Regmi said that monitoring is being done to see whether the candidates opened accounts after taking recommendations and whether more than one representative has spent money. He said that public property cannot be used for campaigning, that financial assistance from NGOs and public institutions has been received for the election, that expenses incurred during corner meetings or public meetings will be monitored, and that details will be submitted to the Election Office after monitoring the expenses within the limits set by the commission.
He said that although some candidates have already inquired at the Election Office to open an election-targeted account, they have not been able to give a recommendation due to the lack of procedures. The Office of the Comptroller and Auditor General has stated that the election expenditure process will be monitored after receiving the procedures on Tuesday.
Similarly, there is a process of sending complaints and complaints regarding violations of the election code of conduct to the District Monitoring Committee through the Assistant Chief District Officer for recommendation for action. Assistant Chief District Officer of Makawanpur, Mohan Raj Joshi, informed that no complaint has been received about violation of the election code of conduct in Makawanpur so far.
