Police on Sunday arrested seven defendants who were absconding after being convicted by the court in cases of weapons, drugs, theft, and check dishonor.

Police have arrested Vijay Moktan, 27, of Kailash Rural Municipality-6, Makawanpur, who is absconding in a weapons and drug case. The District Court, Makawanpur, had sentenced Moktan to 2 years in prison and a fine of Rs 20,000 in the weapons and drug case. 

Police have arrested Arjin Kumar Raut, 38, of Hetauda Sub-Metropolitan City-17, who was sentenced to 1 month and 17 days in prison by the District Court, Makawanpur, in the drug case. Chandra Bahadur Gole, 31, of Hetauda Sub-Metropolitan City-14, who is absconding in the drug case, has been taken under control from his home by the police. 

The court had sentenced Gole to 1 year in prison and a fine of Rs 5,400. The police have also arrested Binay BK, 28, of Hetauda-16, who was absconding after being sentenced to four months in prison in a theft case.  

Police have arrested Manoj Lama and Akash Tamang, absconding defendants in a theft case, from Hetauda-19. The court had sentenced the defendants to three months in prison each in the theft case.  

Similarly, the police have also arrested Buddha Gole, 38, of Hetauda Sub-metropolitan City-13, the absconding defendant in the cheque dishonor case. The court had fined Gole Rs 3,000. DSP Pushkar Bogati, spokesperson of the Makawanpur District Police, said that the seven absconding defendants were arrested while hiding in the village.

The defendants had absconded after the court verdict. With the aim of implementing the court verdict, the Makawanpur Police has started arresting the absconding defendants who were found guilty and sentenced to imprisonment and fine. According to the Makawanpur District Police, 63 absconding defendants have been arrested and presented before the court from Shrawan to Poush of the current fiscal year.
