52 out of 95 polling stations in Dolakha have been placed on the 'highly sensitive' list.
Chief District Officer Hari Prasad Ghimire said that 52 polling stations have been placed on the 'highly sensitive' list after studying the security sensitivity due to past violent incidents, booth occupation and geographical remoteness in the elections. According to him, 28 polling stations have been classified as sensitive and 15 polling stations have been classified as general. 'We have classified the polling stations by looking at past violent incidents, booth occupation and security sensitivity,' he said, 'Further studies are also being conducted, some polling stations are in geographically remote areas. We have started preparations for the election by keeping them under surveillance.' He said that preparations have been made to prevent incidents similar to those in the past elections from happening this time. There are a total of 170,030 voters in the district. 'Voters have complained that they have not been able to cast their votes in some polling stations for years,' he said, We will not allow the past to repeat itself in this election. We are creating an environment where voters can vote with confidence. We have prepared to mobilize security personnel accordingly.'
He said that due to the current shortage of election police in Dolakha, they were brought in from neighboring districts Sindhupalchowk and Kavre. He said that although the district has a demand for 1,350 election police, even when requested from neighboring districts, there is still a shortage of 100. Similarly, the Nepal Army may mobilize more than 1,000 and preparations are being made to mobilize the Armed Forces and Nepal Police accordingly.
The Election Commission has placed the district in the 'red zone' due to past violent incidents and booth capture during the election. There were 94 polling stations in the district in the 2079 election.
