Locals have been alarmed after rhinos were spotted in Manahari Rural Municipality in the western region of Makawanpur and the Sannatar area of Hetauda.

At the request of the locals, efforts are being made to safely return the rhino to the park using two elephants brought from the Parsa National Park. An attempt was made to take the rhino, which was seen in the Bhotekholsi area of Lamitar in Manahari-3, to the Pratappur forest with the help of two elephants and three tractors, but it was not successful.

With the help of the army, police and locals, the Parsa National Park team had been trying all day to take the rhino to the 'core area'. After the rhino entered the forest of Jaising Kharanga in Manahari-9, the team along with the elephants has been keeping a close watch on it.

Ranger Pranay Jha of the Lamitar post under the Parsa National Park informed that despite efforts all day, the rhino could not be safely brought to the core area. 'The rhino has gone to the forest near the Viral Bridge above Dillipur, the elephant team is also there,' he said.

It is believed that the rhino may have separated from the group in the forest of Pratappur in Manahari-6 and entered the settlement.

Secretary of the Ujwal Bhavishya Madhyapra Consumer Committee under the park, Jayaram Rijal, said that necessary coordination and cooperation are being done with the park to move the rhino from the settlement area to the forest. The team, including two elephants, has been taken from Manahari-3 Lamitar to Manahari-9 Jaising with the help of three local tractors.

Local residents have been requested not to go out unnecessarily in the evening and morning and to immediately inform the committee or the park if they see a rhino or other wild animal.
