The third university sports competition is scheduled to be held from Magh 22 at Kathmandu University in Dhulikhel, Kavre.

The competition organized by the National Sports Council is being co-organized by Kathmandu University and Nepal International Event Management Pvt. Ltd. The competition will run until Magh 23. In a press conference organized on Thursday to provide information about the competition, Acting Director of Kathmandu University Student Welfare Directorate Gokul KC said that 8 universities across the country will participate in the competition. According to him, Kathmandu University, Tribhuvan, Sudurpaschim, Madhyapaschim, Purbanchal, Gandaki, Pokhara and Agriculture and Forestry University will participate in the competition. 

The competition will feature volleyball, table tennis, badminton, basketball and athletics. Only men's teams will participate in volleyball, while women and men will participate in other sports. 279 players from eight universities will participate in the competition. Basketball has been included in the university sports this time. In the previous two editions, only four sports were included. 

National Sports Council Executive Member Kamal Bhattarai said that the third edition is being held on the scheduled date due to the initiative of Kathmandu University. According to the rotation system, this time the competition was to be organized by the University of Agriculture and Forestry.

However, after the university expressed its inability to organize the competition due to lack of sufficient budget, he said, the competition is being organized by Kathmandu University. Min Kumar Sharma, Head of the Council's Competition Department, said that 1.8 million rupees have been allocated for the competition. Although nine universities were preparing to participate in the competition, Lumbini Buddhist University expressed its inability to participate at the last minute, he said. 

The first edition of the University Sports Competition was held at the Dasharath Stadium in Kathmandu and the second edition was held in Pokhara. Gokul KC, Acting Director of the Kathmandu University Student Welfare Directorate, said that this time it will be made even grander than the previous editions.

KC said that it is believed that the competition, which will be attended by more than 300 players, coaches and managers from universities across the country, will also help in promoting tourism in Dhulikhel, a tourist town in Kavre. An agreement has been signed between the council and Kathmandu University today to conduct the competition.
