Political parties and candidates in the district have pledged to follow the code of conduct issued by the Election Commission for the House of Representatives elections to be held on February 21.
In an all-party discussion held at the Chief Electoral Officer's office in Dhulikhel on Saturday, they also urged for effective monitoring of whether the code of conduct was being followed.
In the discussion, Chief Electoral Officer Prem Prasad Neupane informed about the election code of conduct and the legal action to be taken in case of violation and urged all stakeholders including political parties, candidates, and the media to fully follow the code of conduct.
Neupane emphasized that compliance with the code of conduct is important for a free and fair election. Chief District Officer Gopal Kumar Adhikari urged everyone to fully follow the code of conduct as it is the backbone of a free election.
Electoral Officer of Kavre Constituency No. 1, Tikabhushan Ghimire urged political parties and the media to campaign only during the specified time. Stating that there is a possibility of misleading propaganda being misused by AI in recent times, he urged them to be aware of it.
At the discussion program, Congress Kavre Vice President Ramesh Prasad Humagain said that they are committed to following the code of conduct issued by the Election Commission. He said that if the election campaign schedule is made in coordination between the parties, possible clashes and encounters during the election campaign can be prevented. Similarly, UML's Nawaraj Dhakal stressed the need to increase monitoring and surveillance of social media. He said that the more effective the implementation of the election code of conduct can be, the more fair and impartial the election will be.
Gunanidhi Sapkota of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) warned that people's representatives are misusing government vehicles during the election and warned them to control it. He also stressed that the Election Commission should treat all parties and candidates equally.
At the program, Binod Lama, a candidate from the para-sexual community who became a candidate in Kavre 2 from the Samajwadi Party, said that people from the gender minority community were insulted during the election campaign and said that their safety should be guaranteed.
Asha Tamang, an independent candidate from Kavre 2, said that independent candidates should be allowed to use the Nepali flag in their election campaigns. Other participants in the program said that despite violations of the code of conduct in previous elections, no action was taken and demanded strict monitoring and action this time.
In the House of Representatives elections to be held on Falgun 21, 18 people have registered their candidacies in Kavre Constituency No. 1 and 24 in Constituency No. 2. Although the candidates are currently holding programs including voter meetings, they will be allowed to hold intensive campaign programs including large public meetings only from Falgun 4.
