Kathmandu-based Dwarika Foundation has provided Rs 3.7 million to Hetauda Community Eye Hospital to purchase equipment.

The amount was handed over by her daughter Sangita Shrestha on behalf of the Dwarika Foundation, established in memory of hotelier Dwarika Shrestha.

Shrestha on Friday handed over Rs 36,99,990 to Siddhi Shrestha, director of Tilganga Eye Hospital and patron of Hetauda Community Eye Hospital, and Dr. Sunil Thakali, chief ophthalmologist of Hetauda Community Eye Hospital.

The amount was provided for the purchase of a device (visual field) to identify glaucoma. Due to the lack of such equipment, glaucoma patients had to be sent to Tilganga Hospital in Kathmandu. Now, with the introduction of this machine, it will be easier to identify this disease, said Dr. Thakali.

The eye hospital, established on Mangsir 5, 2065 in Hetauda Sub-metropolitan City-10 TCN, has so far performed cataract surgeries on 81,000 people and restored their sight. Indian citizens also come to the eye hospital for cataract surgeries. Over 17 years of surgery, more than 25 percent of them are Indian citizens.
