What you should know

Stating that the death of district-based journalist Ajay Garkhali appears mysterious, the investigation committee formed by the Federation of Nepali Journalists district branch submitted a study report to the Chief District Officer and the Police Chief on Sunday.

The branch had formed a committee under the coordination of Vice President Shanta Adhikari. Gorkhali died at Bharatpur Hospital on Mangsir 20. He had been living in a tent in Bharatpur and had returned to his house in Gaindakot on Mangsir 19. The family only learned about his death on Mangsir 21. The death was revealed only after his father Gopal Pariyar, who had reached the Ward Police Office in Narayangadh in search of his son, made inquiries.

Ajay, who was roaming in various streets of Narayangadh, was initially taken to the Ward Police. After injuries were found on his body and head, the police took him to the hospital for treatment. The police have stated that Gorkhali suffered injuries due to hitting his head in various places. The study team has stated in the postmortem report that there was a blunt object injury on the head. The report states that there was blood clot in the inner part of the brain and death due to blunt object injury.

‘It is said that the death occurred due to brain hemorrhage at the postmart. However, it is necessary to study the cause of the brain hemorrhage,’ the report submitted by the federation states. The committee coordinator Adhikari said that the cause of the injury should be answered, why the police found him unconscious but did not immediately take him to the hospital and took him to the ward police office. The federation had made the report public on Saturday. Chief District Officer Ganesh Aryal said that the investigation will be completed without any confusion or suspicion.
