Representatives of security agencies, political parties, and civil society who participated in the interaction organized by the District Election Office on Wednesday emphasized that the election should be held in a clean, impartial, and fear-free environment.
Chief Election Officer Prem Prasad Neupane urged all political parties to make it a success as elections are the backbone of democracy. Informing that the offices of election officers will be established in both the districts on Friday, he said that he is ready to conduct the election in a fair and impartial manner. He urged the parties to conduct activities in a calm and peaceful manner from the day of nomination registration.
Chief District Officer Gopal Kumar Adhikari informed that a security plan has been made by incorporating past experiences and security agencies have been mobilized accordingly. He urged the parties to focus on the election with confidence, saying that no lapses in security will be allowed.
UML District President Rajan Bhurtel said that his party is committed to following the election code of conduct. He urged other parties to follow the code of conduct as well. He urged the Commission to monitor whether the code of conduct is being followed or not. RSVP District Secretary GN Sapkota complained that the commission and security agencies are discriminating between candidates of big and small parties and urged for equal treatment in the upcoming elections.
District Police Chief Superintendent of Police Komal Shah informed that 1,115 security personnel from Nepal Police and 350 from the Armed Forces will be deployed for the elections. He informed that 2,269 election police personnel will be deployed in the district. Shah said that a security plan has been made by pointing out the security challenges seen in the past.
District Election Officer Dinesh Shiwakoti informed that there are 326,611 voters in the two constituencies of the district. There are 161,100 voters in constituency number 1 and 165,511 voters in constituency number 2. According to him, the office of constituency number 1 will be established in Panauti Municipality. The office of constituency number 2 will be established in the Educational Training Center Dhulikhel.
