The Human Rights and Peace Society has launched a citizen dialogue program from Bharatpur, Chitwan on Tuesday to hold elections on Falgun 21.
The campaign inaugurated by the society's founding president, human rights leader Krishna Pahadi, will immediately include programs in 55 districts. The campaign will run for 22 days. Presenting the concept paper of the Peace Society at the inaugural program, the society's general secretary, Prakash Shahi, said that they will conduct civil dialogue in the districts focusing on the topic of 'hostile conduct, friendly competition and the inevitable need for elections on time'. The concept paper of the Peace Society mentions that the current interim government was formed on Bhadra 27 against the backdrop of the brutal repression and killings carried out by the state in the Genji movement on Bhadra 23 and the destruction that occurred during the protest on Bhadra 24 in the name of anger. The society has stated that the interim government is a product of circumstances and that an independent government in a multi-party democratic system will go against democratic values and citizen supremacy for a long time, so elections on the announced date are inevitable. The society believes that democracy will return to normal only after the elections. But the society has appealed to keep the election free from the dark shadow of power and wealth, and to compete in a friendly manner by all parties and candidates demonstrating non-hostile behavior.
Since the constitution is a dynamic document, it should be amended from time to time according to the wishes of the citizens, but the society believes that while amending, it should not be done with a backward approach but with a determination to move forward continuously by keeping political stability, good governance, development and sustainable peace at the center. The society has demanded that the values of life cycle situation balance, climate justice and non-violence be included in the preamble of the constitution. The society has also called on everyone to contribute to promoting harmony.
The society has also requested everyone to use social media and information technology wisely. The society has appealed to everyone to make good use of social media, not to create misleading rumors and not to follow rumors, and to trust only reliable sources of information. Speaking at the event, Nepal Bar Association Chitwan District Court Unit President Phulmaya Ranabhat said that since the elections are being held at a very challenging time, it is necessary for everyone to work together to make them successful.
