National Assembly Election: Final list of candidates published

The Bagmati Province Election Office published the final list of candidates on Sunday under the National Assembly member election program.

The deadline for withdrawal of names was set for Sunday at 1 pm. Since no one withdrew their names within that time, the Election Officer Geeta Shrestha said that the final list of six candidates has been published.
Six people, including one woman, have filed their candidacies for two seats in Bagmati. 

In the final list published by the Election Officer's office, the names of Prem Dangal of Kathmandu from UML are in the other group and Geeta Devkota of Chitwan from Congress are in the women's category. Congress and UML have coordinated their candidacies.  

The names of Kabita Maharjan from Nepal Workers' and Kisan Party's Bikram Dukuchhu are in the women's category. Prem Sapkota of Sindhupalchowk and Saroj Kumari Jha of Kathmandu have filed their candidacies for the Nepali Communist Party. The Election Officer's office has stated that no complaint has been filed against any of the candidates and no names have been withdrawn.

The election schedule is that the candidates will be given election symbols on Monday. The Election Commission has scheduled voting for the 18 vacant seats in the National Assembly from 9 am to 3 pm on Magh 11. 

Elections are being held for two seats, including one woman, from Bagmati Province, out of the 18 National Assembly member elections across the country. As for women, Gangakumari Belbase of the then Maoist Center and Beduram Bhusal of the then Unified Socialist Party will end their terms on Falgun 20, the election for the vacant posts will be held on Magh 11, said Hari Prasad Dhakal, head of the Bagmati Province Election Office.  

The number of voters in Bagmati Province in the election to be held on Magh 11 is 347. Bagmati Province has 348 voters, including 110 provincial assembly members, 119 local level chairmen and vice-chairmen, and 238 municipal mayors and deputy mayors. In Purne, Nagarjuna Municipality Mayor Mohan Bahadur Basnet was suspended in a corruption case, so only 347 voters were eligible to vote, said Dhakal, Chief of the Provincial Election Office, Bagmati.  

The polling station for Bagmati has been designated at Bhutan Devi Secondary School in Hetaunda Sub-metropolitan City-4. Election Officer Shrestha said that there will be 2 polling stations at the polling station. The vote weight of a provincial assembly member will be 53, while the local level mayor and deputy mayor will be 19.

The Nepali Congress has 37 seats in the Bagmati Provincial Assembly, while the local level has 107 seats, including the mayor and deputy mayor. Similarly, UML has 27 seats in the provincial assembly and 60 seats at the local level, the then Maoist Center has 21 seats in the provincial assembly and 57 seats at the local level, RPP has 13 seats in the provincial assembly and 1 seat at the local level, Unified Socialist Party has 7 seats in the provincial assembly and 9 seats at the local level, NEMKIPA has 3 seats in the provincial assembly and 2 seats at the local level, and Hamro Nepali Party has 2 seats in the provincial assembly and 1 seat at the local level.

The total vote share in Bagmati Province is 10,333, of which Congress has 3,994 votes and 2,738 votes. UML is in third place with 2,571 votes. Rastriya Prajatantra Party has 708 votes. Nepal Workers and Peasants Party has 197 votes, Hamro Nepali Party has 106 votes and Swatantra has 19 votes.
