The king cobra, or 'king cobra', is considered the largest venomous snake in terms of thickness and length.

A team led by Manesh Limbu, president of the Meghauli Ghatgai Nature Guide Association, went to the lakes of Chitwan National Park to count the migratory birds that depend on the water during the winter and saw this king snake basking under a Simal tree on Thursday afternoon.

The king snake was found on the road from Khoriyamuhan to West Devital. This king snake is found from the Terai to the high hills.

‘Its habitat is mainly in the Terai region. But the specialty of this snake is that it can also reach other places by walking a lot. There are records of it wandering to high places,’ said Dev Prasad Pandey, who has a PhD in venomous snakes.

Its main food is other snakes. But Pandey says that it also eats other animals. Its venom is very deadly. It has the power to kill even a large elephant.

‘But it also seems to be wise and clever in using poison. It uses the amount of poison according to the situation. It does not use all the poison at once,’ said Pandey. Perhaps because of this peculiarity, there are few cases of people dying from the bite of the king snake in Nepal.
