Although Bharatpur Metropolitan City has implemented various schemes, it has not been able to spend the budget allocated for them.
The metropolis has spent a total of 20 percent of its budget in the last five months. The metropolis had presented an estimated budget of Rs 5.19 billion 7.166 billion for the current fiscal year 2082/83.
Of which, Rs 2.61 billion 7.818 billion has been allocated for current and Rs 2.57 billion 8.897 billion for capital. The metropolis has stated that only 20 percent of the overall budget has been spent till the first week of Poush.
In the 18th city council meeting of the metropolis held on Poush 8, Deputy Mayor Chitrasen Adhikari stated that 29 percent of the budget has been spent for current and 11 percent for capital. According to him, 20 percent of the budget has been spent overall. Rs 285.131 billion has been spent for capital. This includes expenditure on development and construction work.
In the city council meeting, Mayor Renu Dahal presented the progress and expenditure on the main and pride projects for urban infrastructure development. Rs 410 million has been spent on the administrative building under construction of the metropolis. She said that the physical progress of the building has reached 85 percent. 348 million rupees have been spent on the Gautam Buddha Cricket Stadium. 42 percent of the construction work of the stadium has been completed.
The work of beautifying Pungila is being done by allocating budget from the Intensive Urban Development Project and the Metropolitan City. 174 million rupees have been spent on this. She said that 30 million rupees have been allocated for this in the current year.
The construction of an electric crematorium at Devghat Dham has been completed under the important project of the Metropolitan City. Although the Metropolitan City has been spending money on other infrastructure, it has not been able to make concrete progress towards solid waste management.
Although the Metropolitan City has included the work of constructing a systematic landfill site in its policy and program, it has not been able to build it. More than 80 tons of waste are being emitted from the Metropolitan City every day. The waste has been temporarily managed in various places in the city.
While presenting the policy and program at the 17th Municipal Assembly in Ashar last year, Mayor Dahal had announced a plan to build a landfill site with modern infrastructure for waste management. She had announced that she would adopt a public-private partnership model for that. However, the waste management has not been finalized yet.
