The Nepal Army's 'Unification Torch Rally', which began its march following the path walked by the then King Prithvi Narayan Shah during the unification of Nepal, has been welcomed at the Seven-Story Palace, Bhairavi Devi Temple in Nuwakot.
The Unification Trail-Walk, which started from Gorkha on Monday, reached the historic seven-storied palace built by Prithvi Narayan Shah in Bidur-2 on Thursday while walking to Kathmandu.
The trek, which entered Nuwakot on Wednesday afternoon, reached Nuwakot Durbar today after stopping at Shubhaghat via Bharyangbhurung, Samari, and Rai Singh in the district. There was a significant presence of the mayor of Bidur Municipality, Rajan Shrestha, the people's representatives of the municipality, employees, and locals in the premises of the Bhairavi Devi Temple located in the seven-storied palace.
On the occasion, Subash Chandra Thapa, the commander of the 6th Battalion of the Nepal Army, Dhading, Nuwakot Chief District Officer Shambhu Prasad Regmi, along with the chiefs and representatives of the security agencies of the Nepal Army, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, National Investigation Office, and various government offices in the district welcomed the Unification Trail-Walk-Walk team.
The goal of the Nepal Unification Trail-Pedestrian Walk is to preserve history, preserve the contributions made by ancestors, and contribute to tourism promotion through the preservation of archaeological, religious, and historical structures that are disappearing and deteriorating, informed Senani Ashok Kumar Malla, the Ganapati Chief of Shree Sher Gana. According to him, the 'Unification Trail' has been taken as an important step to honor the contributions made by ancestors and instill a sense of nationalism in the current young generation.
The route used by Prithvi Narayan Shah during the unification of Nepal was started in 2076 BS to develop it as a unification trail. The Unification Trail-Pedestrian Walk was handed over to Shree Sher Gana of Nuwakot along with the flags of the five companies established by the then Prithvi Narayan Shah along with the unification lamp on the path.
The flags of the first five companies of the Nepali Army, Srinath, Kalibox, Old Gorakh, Barda Bahadur and Sabuj, established by Prithvi Narayan Shah, along with the national flag of Nepal and musical instruments, will be taken to Kathmandu via footpath in the light of the lamp brought out from the Gorkha Palace.
During the departure from Nuwakot to Kathmandu, the Shree Sher Battalion Nuwakot is scheduled to hand over the flags of the first five military companies and the national flag along with the ‘Unification Torch’ to Bhairavi Dal Battalion Kathmandu on the 26th.
