Ten people, including the deputy secretary of Dolakha UML, have resigned from their posts, alleging that they had unilaterally recommended candidates.

In the UML district committee meeting held since Saturday for the upcoming House of Representatives election, candidate aspirant Balkrishna Shiwakoti protested after Chairman Nar Bahadur Shrestha made a unilateral decision. After that, a district committee member said that there was a situation of hand wringing in the meeting.

Although the candidate aspirants were Rachana Khadka, Shyam Basnet, Double Pandey and Balkrishna Shiwakoti, more than 10 people, including Deputy Secretary and UML Dolakha Publicity Department Chief Hari Oli, have announced their resignations and will not be in any party committee, saying that Gurung and Shrestha had unilaterally recommended their names.

Deputy Secretary Oli said that they resigned because the candidate aspirants were insulted and asked to recommend the chairman and the single candidate in a hooligan style.

Another district committee member, Nil Kumar Khulal, said that the workers were angry with the style of Chairman Shrestha and leader Gurung in recommending their candidacies. ‘The party chairman and the cadres are angry with Gurung’s style,’ he said, ‘Since it is difficult to get a recommendation from the ward, the recommendation has been made unilaterally by insulting the cadres.’

Candidate aspirant Balkrishna Shiwakoti accused the party of being dominated by hooliganism rather than ideology. Shiwakoti was defeated in the 2079 election by 315 votes.

Former minister Gurung, who was recommended, had won the 2070 and 2074 elections. When he became the Prime Minister in 2074, he became the Minister for Women, Children and Senior Citizens and Minister for Information and Communication and Technology and also became the government’s spokesperson.
