39 Indian citizens escaped by breaking the prison wall during the Genji protest. Of these, 13 came to the prison, but 26 are still absconding, said Bhimphedi Prison Chief Subash Poudel.
On Bhadra 24, around 12:30 am, 440 prisoners, 260 from Block A and 180 from Block B, escaped by breaking three gates of the prison and breaking the western wall. Chief Poudel said that during the search for the escaped prisoners, security personnel have taken control of 300 from various places and handed them over to the prison.
The search for the 140 escaped prisoners is ongoing, said DSP Pushkar Bogati, spokesperson of the Makawanpur District Police. Among the prisoners who have escaped from Bhimphedi Prison so far, the most are on drug and extortion charges.
According to Makawanpur Police, 74 people who escaped from the Central Prison in Kathmandu, Nakkhu Prison, Bharatpur, Kaski, Tanahun and other prisons have been arrested from various places in Makawanpur. They are also being kept in Bhimphedi Prison. Currently, there are 976 prisoners, including 34 women, in Bhimphedi Prison. Of these, 44 are foreign nationals. Before Bhadra 24, there were 1,066 prisoners here.
7 children from the reform home are also still absconding
72 children escaped from the reform home in Thanabharyang, Hetauda Sub-metropolitan City-11 on the morning of Bhadra 25. Of these, the police have taken 65 into custody, while 7 are still absconding, said Pradeep Gautam, the head of the reform home. "The runaway children have not even reached home, they are not in contact with anyone yet," he said.
The runaways are on drug and extortion charges. There were 94 juvenile delinquents in the reform home. Currently, there are 84 children in the reform home.
